Walking in humanity's past in Matera in Italia

What distinguishes the historic city of Matera from many others in Italy is its antiquity and human settlements dating back 10,000 years.

Today we take a walk in a part of the natural archaeological park of the rock churches of Matera, more simply called Parco della Murgia Materana. The Murge are a rather large Appulo-Lucanian subregion, corresponding to a karst plateau of tectonic origin and quadrangular shape located between central Puglia and north-eastern Basilicata
The Park is located in the eastern part of Basilicata on the border with Puglia, in Southern Italy, and extends over an area of ​​approximately 8000 hectares in the territory of Matera and Montescaglioso.
Here we are very close to the center and the historic part of the city of Matera but, at the same time, it seems to be in the wildest world ever. Nature is everywhere. It is very poetic when there is spring.
The caves are natural, and partly also dug by man to create a place sheltered from atmospheric agents.
The wind is always very strong.
Rock churches have been found in many caves, currently there are 155 dating back to the 8th century AD.

Spring in Italy is the most beautiful season!
Here we are in the Matera Park. The park is called Murgia Materana.
In the Murge area, between Puglia and Basilicata, there is a lot of wind.
It is precisely a characteristic of this territory and can be found in all seasons. In fact there are several wind farms.
In past spring days the air was very warm, but nature is at its best in this period. Plants sprout, flowers on fruit trees bloom and, all around, nature is beautifully green and colourful.
Here we show a remarkable variety of spontaneous flowers from the Murge. These flowers are endogenous, found only here.
Le Murge can be defined as a type of Mediterranean scrub, called Murgia scrub.
